Background

The Dan Perichino Cancer Fund is a nonprofit organization created to raise funds to pay for the cancer treatments of Dan Perichino, a close friend who has successfully battled, and beat Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on two separate occasions.

Challenge

Our challenge when creating materials for the Dan Perichino Cancer Fund was to develop a brand that would promote positivity and optimism while dealing with a serious subject. We needed to design a logo, messaging, products, and a web experience that would communicate what Dan was going through, while also maintaining a confident outlook.

Insights

After seeing the strong, cheerful outlook Dan utilized throughout his first battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, we knew we needed to communicate those qualities in every aspect of the nonprofit fund’s branding. Furthermore, the brand had to be instantly identifiable to those unfamiliar with the cause, while also evoking support from those familiar with the fund.

The violet color we utilized for the brand’s primary color is official color of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma awareness. It was clear that we needed to utilize the widely-known color in order to make the fund instantly recognizable as one fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Solution

The outpouring of support from Dan’s friends and family was overwhelming while developing the branding, materials, and events relating to the fund. With their help, we developed an identity and supporting brand materials that Dan and the community were able to rally around throughout his battle and successful recovery.
